BARISAN Nasional will make sure the 14th general election (GE14) is the first and final time the 93-year-old Dr Mahathir Mohamad stands on the Bersatu ticket, said Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.
Zahid told a media conference today the 93-year-old former prime minister lacked capability due to his advanced years and his health.
“He (Dr Mahathir) can say anything he wants… We in BN will make sure this is the first and last time Dr Mahathir is contesting on the opposition and Bersatu ticket,” Zahid was quoted saying on Bernama.
Dr Mahathir, who is the Langkawi candidate and Pakatan Harapan prime minister designate, has on several occasions vowed to take down caretaker prime minister Najib Razak, saying he intended to see his former protege ousted before he dies.
Meanwhile, Zahid repeated the warning that action would be taken against party members who acted against the interests of Umno by assisting the other side.
Former Umno stalwarts Rafidah Aziz and Daim Zainuddin were booted from the party today for endorsing Pakatan Harapan in GE14 while Dr Rais Yatim is under probe for his social media posts in which he called on the people to embrace change while publishing photos of the opposition’s rallies. – May 5, 2018.
