Vandals smash 18 windows of train decked with BN logos, Najib's images

VANDALS threw stones and smashed the windows of 18 carriages of a Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) train bearing the Barisan Nasional logo and images of caretaker prime minister Najib Razak.

The incident, believed to have occurred late Thursday, went viral on social media when Twitter user @malisAz said that a train her father was driving was repeatedly pelted with stones throughout its entire route from Sentul to Tampin.

KTM chairperson Nawawi Ahmad said he could not comment on whether BN’s logos or Najib’s images were the cause of the attack, but said in Langkawi last night that those caught would be punished appropriately.

“I am not sure (if that) were the cause. Not everyone likes (BN) and not everyone dislikes – but in this case, I am asking the people to think with an open mind, not rely on emotions and destroy government property. Those windows were expensive,” he said.

According to the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715), action can be taken against those responsible under Section 130, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 and up to 20 years’ jail upon conviction.

Nawawi is also BN’s candidate for the Langkawi parliamentary seat.

He will face former prime minister-turned-Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as PAS candidate Zubir Ahmad. – May 5, 2018.
