Penang not yet a model state, says Najib

DON’T be hoodwinked by Pakatan Harapan’s false promises, said Najib Razak, referring to the pledge to turn Penang into a model state, which he said had yet to be fulfilled.

Bernama reported the caretaker prime minister as saying all the promises made by the DAP-led Penang state government in the last general election were false.

He cited plans for affordable houses and to alleviate floods as some of the promises.

“I have counted 150 cases of floods in Penang. Many houses have been built on hillslopes,” he said, adding that while the then-BN chief minister Koh Tsu Koon was heavily criticised, he had a better record of safeguarding the environment than DAP.

Najib said there were also the issues of the bungalow that Penang caretaker chief minister Lim Guan Eng had bought and the undersea tunnel.

“That’s why you must not be taken in by the opposition’s promises. They try to offer us all kinds of false promises,” he said while meeting the people in the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat today.

Najib said the cooperation among PH’s component parties was temporary and was not in the interests of the people, being only aimed at toppling the BN government.

“We (BN) have set up a stable government. A stable government must have mutual understanding among the component parties.

“How can long-term adversaries come together in the blink of an eye and become friends forever to govern Malaysia? It does not make sense,” he said, referring to PH’s leaders. – May 5, 2018.
