What's so offensive about Rosmah billboard, Sarawak DAP asks EC

SARAWAK DAP has removed a billboard with caretaker prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor on it as demanded by the Election Commission but wants an explanation on what was so offensive about it.

The billboard, which was at the centre of a roundabout in Taman BDC near the Kuching International Airport, said “Undi Sim Kui Hian = Undi Najib & Rosmah” (A vote for Sim Kui Hian equals a vote for Najib and Rosmah). The message was also conveyed in Chinese.

Sim of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is the Stampin incumbent representing Barisan Nasional. State DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen is the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the seat.

Chong, who is also state PH head, said the EC had at first asked DAP to remove Rosmah as she was not running for election.

The order to remove the entire billboard came later, which Chong said could be because BN had complained to the Sarawak EC director.

Chong said if the message on the billboard had offended, it was because it was true.

“What we project here is the truth. We are only accentuating a fact.

“A vote for Sim is a vote for Umno and a vote for Najib. Because of Rosmah’s position and her influence over Najib, it is a vote for Rosmah as well.”

Chong also asked why SUPP was “so fearful of being associated with Najib” – a question frequently asked by PH in its campaign. – May 5, 2018.
