NAJIB Razak today highlighted the number of luxury cars businessman Mokhzani Mahathir purportedly owns, as the caretaker prime minister continued his attacks on the opposition’s central figure and his prime nemesis, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mokhzani is the second son of Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir, who is the opposition’s prime minister candidate should it win GE14.
Mokhzani last night said at a ceramah in Kedah that there was no pride in receiving the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) as the people would wish to take care of their own livelihood.
A wealthy person should not criticise those helping the poor, the Barisan Nasional chairman said today at a meet-and-greet event in Pasir Gebu, Penaga, Kepala Batas, which residents are mainly fishermen and padi farmers who receive monthly aid.
“Is it wrong for us to give the people BR1M? Who is Mokhzani? Who is his father? He received contracts worth billions when his father was in power,” Najib said, adding that Mokhzani also sat in boards of companies because of his father.
“I told my kids not to ask anything from the government. He (Mokhzani) is very rich, among the richest in Malaysia. He has 23 luxury cars, including a Bugatti sports car, not MyVi or Proton cars that his father loves so much.”
Mokhzani spoke last night at a PH ceramah in Sg Tiang, which is under the Pendang federal seat in Kedah.
The co-founder of Sapura Energy Bhd, and chairman and executive director of fibre optics cable maker Opcom Bhd has been under attack from BN since following his parents in opposing the Najib administration.
Najib dragged up Mokhzani’s name last month when taking a jibe at PH’s election promise to abolish the North-South Highway (PLUS) toll if it comes into power.
“Where would PH get RM380 billion to compensate the concessionaire? It does not matter how rich Mokhzani is, even he would not be able to compensate that amount,” Najib said. – May 5, 2018.
