THE Sarawak government will hand out a “special financial assistance” to 28,000 state civil servants, including those in statutory bodies and local authorities, amounting to two months of their basic salary.

Premier Abang Johari Openg, in announcing the “bonus” at the state legislative assembly today, said the payment would be disbursed before the end of the year.

He added the payment was made because the state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak “highly appreciates the contributions of civil servants in fulfilling their mandates and responsibilities with utmost integrity for the wellbeing of the people”.

Approximately 130,000 federal civil servants who had served in the state throughout the year and are mostly members of the uniformed bodies, security personnel, and specific federal statutory bodies, will get RM600 each for having “worked together (with state civil servants) and contributed to the socio-economic development efforts of Sarawak throughout this year”.

Their payment would be disbursed at the beginning of 2024. – November 29, 2023.
