DAIM Zainuddin, Rafidah Aziz and Rais Yatim have been sacked from Umno, party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today said.
Tengku Adnan said he ordered the sacking of the trio, who had been either indirectly or overtly endorsing the opposition led by former prime minister and Umno president Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysiakini reported.
Daim has in recent days appeared on the campaign trail of Pakatan Harapan candidates, including Dr Mahathir, who is the Langkawi candidate, in Kedah.
Earlier today, Daim and Rafidah shared a stage where they urged support for Dr Mahathir, who is the Pakatan Harapan prime minister designate, to oust Barisan Nasional in the May 9 general election.
Rais, meanwhile, had been vocal in his criticism of Umno, especially over its handling of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal. While he has not shown direct support for PH, he has on social media urged the people to vote for change.
Two days ago, Tengku Adnan, had issued a warning against party members showing support for the other side, saying action would be taken against those guilty of campaigning for the opposition.
“If they were to consult the party constitution, they would know that campaigning for the opposition is wrong,β he told the party mouthpiece, Utusan Malaysia, today. β May 5, 2018.
