NEARLY 300,000 members of the police, special task and armed forces and their spouses are voting early today.
Election Commission (EC) chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah said in a statement yesterday 278,590 of the 300,255 registered early voters will cast their votes today.
The remaining 21,665 early voters will vote by post, The Star reported yesterday.
Voting at most of the 586 polling stations nationwide will begin at 8am and close at 5pm. Several polling centres will close early at 1pm, while others will be open until 7pm.
“The ballots will not be counted until May 9 at 4pm. Until then, they will be kept safely in the police lockup,” Mohd Hashim was quoted as saying in the statement.
A voter turnout of 14,940,624 is expected in the 14th general election. – May 5, 2018.
