THE credibility of Gen (Rtd) Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor as the former chief of Defence Force has prompted a major shift in Chinese support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate ahead of polling day in Kemaman this Saturday.

Terengganu Wanita MCA’s deputy chief Boon Kim Lain said the party machinery could feel this during the 11th day of campaigning today.

“They (the people) are beginning to realise and will support the BN candidate, who has a very good image. I think we will make it through,” she said when met while accompanying Raja Mohamed Affandi to campaign around Bandar Chukai today.

Boon, who is also the Kemaman Wanita MCA division head, said most Chinese voters in Kemaman hope the lawmaker will develop the area more sustainably.

Meanwhile, Raja Mohamed Affandi is confident that Chinese voters will give him their full backing on polling day.

“Most of them (Chinese voters) are with BN. I am comfortable with that. With the strong support of the Chinese community for BN and I, we can give a tough fight in the by-election.

“To build a multi-racial country, we need all (races) to be united. Without unity, our efforts will be crippled. I am here based on that principle,” he said.

The by-election will see a direct fight between Raja Mohamed Affandi and Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar of PAS.

The by-election was necessitated after the Terengganu Election Court on September 26 nullified the victory of PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th general election. – Bernama, November 28, 2023.
