THE PKR-organised gathering in Bandar Baru Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, last night to introduce P. Prabakaran, the party-backed independent candidate for Batu, did not get approval from the Election Commission or police, reported Bernama.
“They (PKR) only sent in their application for a ceramah in the evening, and no approval was given to them, as the party has no candidate contesting in the area,” said Sentul district police chief R. Munusamy.
“Moreover, they have to provide a 10-day notice before holding a ceramah.”
He said police only received a note from Pakatan Harapan, saying there would be a polls event held.
He said Prabakaran, too, had failed to apply for a permit, as required under the Elections Act.
Munusamy said police will conduct investigations under Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
Batu incumbent Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua, has been disqualified from defending the seat. Following this, he has endorsed Prabakaran. – May 5, 2018.
