WONG Tack is the second person from Pakatan Harapan, after Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to be investigated under the Anti-Fake News Act 2018.
The DAP candidate for Bentong was called up to the Bentong police station at 3pm, following a report lodged by an MCA member.
The news was posted on Wong’s Facebook page at 6pm.
The police report said Wong is alleged to have disseminated fake news on nomination day.
It said he, along with party members at the nomination centre, caused a stir after demanding to see the MyKad of Gerakan’s Ketari state seat candidate, Lau Hoi Keong.
Wong said Lau is not registered as a voter in Pahang, and must be disqualified.
Under the law, state seat candidates must be residents of the state, but the rule does not apply to those running in parliamentary seats.
The incident on nomination day was broadcast live on Facebook. In the live stream, people can be heard shouting MCA president Liow Tiong Lai’s name.
The police report said this gave the impression that three-term Bentong MP Liow did not have a Pahang address.
Police are investigating Dr Mahathir under the newly enacted Anti-Fake News Act following his claims that the aircraft he was supposed to fly to Langkawi on last week had been sabotaged.
The PH chairman said he is prepared to be charged in court. – May 4, 2018.
