59% Selangor folk believe Dr Mahathir will make the best PM

A MAJORITY of Selangor folk believe that Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the most qualified prime minister candidate, said Institut Darul Ehsan chief executive Professor Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman today.

A survey carried out from January to last month showed that Dr Mahathir polled 59%, ahead of caretaker prime minister Najib Razak (27%) and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang (14%).

“While Dr Mahathir is popular because he goes down to the ground, the (PH) machinery is not strong,” said Redzuan at a press conference in Shah Alam.

“If they (PH) want to win, they will have to ensure a big turnout at polling centres nationwide.

“If they mobilise well, they will get support and victory.”

He said despite Najib’s unpopularity among Selangor residents, Barisan Nasional will gain ground in the state.

He added that PAS supporters do not consider Hadi to be prime minister material.

Redzuan said the survey showed that support for PH in Selangor this year has increased by 7%.

In terms of popularity, PH saw an increase of 4%, BN saw a drop of 4% and the figure for PAS stayed the same at 12%.

Redzuan said the survey also showed that in the same period, the number of fence-sitters saw a drop, from 5% to 2%.

“We predict that there are going to be no fence-sitters on election day. They have already made their decision, (whether) to vote for their party of choice or to spoil their vote.” – May 4, 2018.
