Reject those who practise unfairness, social media users say after Tian Chua ruling

MALAYSIANS took to social media to express their disappointment over the court decision to throw out Chua Tian Chang’s legal challenge against the Election Commission today, calling for Pakatan Harapan to be given the mandate in the 14th general election.

The Batu incumbent, better known as Tian Chua, was disqualified from standing in the parliamentary seat, and will appeal against the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s ruling.

Facebook user “Ironside Burr” said the judiciary is in need of a “major overhaul”, and called for such action to take place after PH takes over Putrajaya.

Anthony Woon Vken said the court decision will ultimately benefit Chua, as his supporters can see that he and his party, PKR, have been treated unfairly.

“All the more people will reject unfairness, and also reject the people who practise unfairness.”

After the court made its decision, Chua called on supporters to vote for 22-year-old independent candidate P. Prabakaran, who has been endorsed by PH.

Prabakaran, despite being a fresh face, has received support from social media users.

“Yay!!! I have been rooting for Prabakaran to run for PKR and there you have it – a twist of fate that turned out for the better. This boy will win big for PH. He is young, intelligent, well-mannered and mature for his age, and he has the heart for the people,” said Helena Han.

Twitter user Mathana Muhilan said while he does not know Prabakaran’s principles and policy proposals, the candidate should not be judged from his age alone.

“Since Tian Chua can’t run for election, his supporters in Batu have no choice but to support Prabakaran. Support him for the sake of Malaysia.”

Judge Nordin Hassan, in dismissing Chua’s suit, said the court has no jurisdiction over the validity of the returning officer’s decision to reject his nomination. – May 4, 2018.
