Pakatan's Fahmi vows to reverse Kerinchi name change

PAKATAN Harapan candidate Fahmi Fadzil has vowed to revert Bangsar South to its original name, Kerinchi, should he win Lembah Pantai in the 14th general election.

He blamed the ruling Barisan Nasional government for the name change.

“I am not anti-development, nor am I against the developer. It was not the developer who changed the name, but it was Umno-BN,” he told a crowd of 700 people at the Kerinchi People’s Housing Project last night.

“Kerinchi is a part of our history, our heritage and our blood.”

He said he will also send an official invitation today to debate BN’s Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin on issues affecting Lembah Pantai folk.

The PKR communications director, on Wednesday, had said he wanted to debate the BN candidate on the Kuala Lumpur City Plan.

“Why is it important? Because it is a development plan for our city,” he said last night.

He said Raja Nong Chik should accept the invitation as he is “not a veteran, just a newcomer”.

It is Fahmi’s first time contesting in a general election, and the second time for Raja Nong Chik.

The third contestant in the Lembah Pantai seat is Fauzi Abu Bakar (PAS). The Islamist party last contested the seat in 1995. – May 4, 2018.
