DR Mahathir Mohamad has become the first victim of the Anti-Fake News Act, said Cynthia Gabriel from the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4).
The C4 executive director said this was because Dr Mahathir was the first to be investigated by the newly gazetted law after saying that his plane was sabotaged.
“The PH chairman (Dr Mahathir) has been the first victim for the Anti-Fake News Act because he said that his plane has been sabotaged,” she said at a ceramah in Petaling Jaya tonight.
Dr Mahathir alleged that his aircraft had been sabotaged just as he was about to leave for Langkawi on the eve of nomination day last week.
Cynthia also said Prime Minister Najib Razak was involved in various scandals, which had made Malaysia a kleptocratic nation.
“This is the first general election where the prime minister is involved in all sorts of scandals, not only in the (purchase of the scorpene) submarine, but also 1Malaysia Development Bhd, Felda and other things,” she said.
She added that the Barisan Nasional government should answer whether the 14th general election is being funded by Chinese investments in Malaysia.
“As the prime minister has admitted that he has taken RM200 million from 1MDB to win GE13.
“So now we want to ask him, where is he going to get the money for GE14 from?
“We don’t worry if there are foreign investments, the more the better, but how does one country control all infrastructure projects in Malaysia,” she said listing down projects like the ECRL, Kuantan Port and other Chinese invested projects.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya candidate Maria Chin Abdullah said in her speech that Barisan Nasional will use whatever it takes to win the general election, and urged the people to come out and vote.
“We hear about Chinese voters’ names in the electoral roll being changed to Malay names, postal voters that are different from the electoral roll and other things.
“This is why we have to give PH our support (to combat these challenges),” she said.
The PH Ceramah at SS3 saw a turnout of about 1,000 people, who cheered and clapped when Marina Mahathir, Maria Chin, Cynthia and other PH candidates spoke on stage. – May 3, 2018.
