CARETAKER deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today criticised Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin for their “baseless allegations” against Barisan Nasional in the run-up to the general election on May 9.

Bernama reported Zahid, who is also the caretaker home minister, as saying that the claim by Muhyiddin that BN would prevent the people from going to the polls on May 9 “made no sense”.

“It does not make sense. He (Muhyiddin) was once in my position (as the deputy prime minister).

“He should not make such accusations now he is not in the government,” he said.

Zahid was commenting on the Bersatu president’s remark that BN would resort to felling trees to block roads and bribe voters to vote for BN candidates.

Zahid also criticised Dr Mahathir for his accusations of being sabotaged in an attempt to stop him from contesting the general election.

Zahid said Dr Mahathir had used similar tactics when he was the prime minister to garner the people’s sympathy.

“We have been fooled by his tactics before, and he is using similar tactics now but with a different approach,” he said after an Armed Forces social programme in Kampung Sungai Sumun near Hutan Melintang in Bagan Datoh.

Zahid was commenting on Dr Mahathir’s allegation of having been sabotaged by the Royal Customs Department and Immigration Department at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang after having flown in from Terengganu last Tuesday.

Dr Mahathir had claimed that the aircraft he was to have boarded at Subang for Langkawi was sabotaged by certain quarters. – May 3, 2018.
