Gombak voters want to keep Azmin as MP

GOMBAK voters want Mohamed Azmin Ali to remain their MP, saying they do not blame him for the water supply problems that have plagued the state for years.

They say Azmin has a good track record governing the state and is always fighting for the rights of the people.

Mangala Geetha, 45, who has lived in Selayang for 20 years, said Selangor residents were not affected by the water crisis.

“We have not have water issues here for years. Reports that say we do are lies.

“If there is a water cut it is because they are carrying out cleaning works. They send water tankers so there are no issues.

“The only incident was an accident at the SPLASH plant which occurred years ago – before they took over the state government,” she told Malaysia Decides.

Aishah Basir, 59, who lives in Hulu Kelang, Gombak also wants Azmin to remain as their MP.

“We do not believe there is a water crisis and don’t know if we can believe what was reported in the news.

“We are comfortable with Azmin who has helped us a lot. I’m not interested in politics but we need a change,” she said.

Nabila Ahmad, 35, said Gombak residents want the opposition to maintain the administration of the state because they have given many incentives during their two terms.

“We are happy with the Selangor government and they have been giving us various incentives. Even for those getting married and who are studying,” she said.

In the 2008 general election, Azmin beat BN’s Said Anuar Said Ahmad by 6,867 votes.

Azmin retained the seat in 2013, defeating BN candidate Raman Ismail by 4,734 votes.

However, PAS grassroots leaders in Gombak believed that Azmin will not win the seat for a third term because his previous victories were due to the party’s support.

A PAS member who wished to be known as Idham said some of the supporters did not have a problem with Azmin but they would remain loyal to PAS.

“I do not think there are any water issues and there is no problem with Azmin, but PAS members are loyal to the party. So, we have to choose our party and our candidates who are also in the running,” he said.

PAS has fielded former Petronas engineer, Khairil Nizam Khirudin to make it a three-cornered fight for Gombak. – May 3, 2018.
