A vote for PAS is a vote for BN, says Dr Mahathir

A VOTE for PAS is a vote for Barisan Nasional, opposition leader Dr Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday.

The Pakatan Harapan prime minister candidate labelled PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang “munafiq” (hypocrite) for cosying up to caretaker prime minister Najib Razak and Umno.

“PAS is a party without direction. They fight, not to win, but to lose.

“Hadi is no longer saying Umno is kafir. He hasn’t accused Umno of being kafir in a long time. He now wants to work with Umno. He is a munafiq. He lies,” Dr Mahathir told a crowd of 8,000 in a Jelajah Pakatan Harapan ceramah last night.

PAS, the Bersatu chairman, said is only interested to act as a spoiler in these elections to divide the Malay vote to benefit Najib.

“They don’t want to win but their aim is to lose. Their aim is to pull people who are anti-Najib to their side instead of PH. They actually support Najib.”

Dr Mahathir warned the crowd to follow Islam instead of following religious leaders like Hadi whom he accused of deviating from the religious path.

“Many Muslims follow leaders instead of the religion. People like Hadi are the reason Muslims in Middle East are slaughtering other Muslims.

“Hadi is working together with Umno. PAS is a part of Umno. Do not vote for the moon. The PAS flag now is no longer like before.”

This is Dr Mahathir’s first appearance in Pahang during the campaigning period.

Other speakers at the event included PH’s deputy prime minster candidate Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Amanah president Mohammad Sabu, incumbent Kuantan MP Fauziah Salleh and Indera Makhota candidate Saifuddin Abdullah. – May 3, 2018.
