THE crowd at a dialogue with 14th general election candidates in Petaling Jaya last night was stumped when the Barisan Nasional candidate refused to answer questions on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.
During a question-and-answer session, voters asked the panel, comprising candidates from BN and Pakatan Harapan, about their views on the country and what they would do should PH take over Putrajaya.
One of the questions posed was what should be done about the 1MDB debacle, which has tainted the country’s image.
BN’s Subang candidate, Tan Seong Lim, answered the middle-aged man by saying he heard that someone is going around and giving talks on 1MDB.
“There is this guy going around, (his name is) Arul (Kanda Kandasamy). The best is to ask him,” said Tan, to boos from the crowd.
1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda is traversing the country, reiterating that caretaker prime minister Najib Razak is innocent of Malaysia’s biggest financial scandal.
Some 500 people attended the dialogue, held at the Dream Centre.
Subang Jaya incumbent and former Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh said if PH wins federal power, there will an inquiry into the 1MDB scandal.
“We will get the attorney-general to reopen the papers on 1MDB. We will also allow Parliament to debate on it,” she said, to cheers from the crowd. – May 3, 2018.
