AN Election Commission employee has lodged a police report after receiving a death threat, believed to be linked to the controversy at the nomination centre in Rantau on Saturday, reported Bernama.

Negri Sembilan police media relations officer for the 14th general election Mazrin Mahmud said the 36-year-old man lodged the report at the Rembau police headquarters yesterday.

The victim had received a WhatsApp message from a friend, accompanied by a screenshot of the death threat made on Facebook.

Mazrin said the Facebook post contained the victim’s photograph and a threat to kill or do bodily harm to him, besides other insulting remarks.

“The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation (via anonymous communication),” he said at the state police contingent headquarters in Seremban today.

He added that police have opened another four investigation papers on GE14-related cases, bringing the total number to nine since nomination day.

On Saturday, returning officer Amino Agos Suyub declared caretaker Negri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan as the winner of the Rantau state seat after sole challenger Dr S. Streram of PKR was barred from entering the nomination centre for not having a candidate’s pass as required by the EC. – May 2, 2018.
