MCA worships China, says Perkasa of billboard controversy

The Malaysian Insight

MALAY rights group Perkasa wants to know if MCA is representing the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) interests, going by 14th general election campaign billboards that have been put up in Johor.

“It looks as though the president of MCA and the party’s machinery are now a representative for CCP in Malaysia,” said Perkasa deputy president Sirajuddin Salleh in a statement.

He said in its quest to show its ties with CCP, MCA has put up billboards featuring images of party head Liow Tiong Lai and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“The Chinese president is the most powerful man in CCP, where the communist ideology is still being practised. It appears that MCA still worships China.”

In Johor, a billboard featuring Liow and Xi, with Chinese characters written on it, lauds MCA’s ties with CCP, and how the people stand to benefit from Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Pakatan Harapan complained about such billboards after the Election Commission removed or ordered the removal of election materials with images of PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Sirajuddin said MCA should not drawn on CCP’s support in the elections.

He said this is possibly the first step towards introducing the communist ideology in Malaysia.

He questioned political parties and the authorities for not bringing up the matter and taking action.

“Why are Umno leaders, who fight and talk so much about religion, race and country, silent?” he said, questioning the silence of other parties, too.

He said Umno leaders have forgotten the fact that hundreds of army personnel died fighting communists during the Malayan insurgency.

“Perkasa wants the Home Ministry and EC to bring down such billboards and label them as propaganda that is a threat to the nation.” – May 2, 2018.
