PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today the new salary scheme for civil servants would be announced before the end of next year.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said guidelines would be prepared by year-end or in the first quarter of 2024 to facilitate the announcement of the scheme.

“Our existing policy is to have a salary adjustment study every 10 years, but we’re already entering the 12th year.

“There hasn’t been a comprehensive study done before this, but I have announced the Public Service Remuneration Scheme Study,” he said at the 2023 Public Sector Inovasi Perdana Awards ceremony organised by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) in Putrajaya tonight.

Also in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamid, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali, Public Services Department director-general Zulkapli Mohamed and Mampu director-general Rodzi Md Saad.

Anwar said while tabling Budget 2024 that an initial incentive of RM2,000 would be paid to Grade 56 civil servants and below, as well as an RM1,000 incentive to all government retirees, including pensioned and non-pensioned veterans, as the study would take some time to complete.

The payments would be made by the end of February, he said.

Anwar said the unity government was planning clear policies focused on lifting the country’s economy and prosperity. – Bernama, November 7, 2023.
