THE Civil Defence Force (CDF) has identified 6,000 hotspots at risk of flooding throughout the northeast monsoon season until March.

CDF management division director Mohammad Fazli Sardi said the agency would work with others to raise awareness in those hotspots about floods.

“We will focus on raising awareness in the community so the impact of floods can be minimised. We know floods will still occur but we want them to know how we can face the floods so the impact is not so bad.

“Previously, the community’s lack of awareness about floods resulted in a huge impact as the victims made no early preparations. We do not want this to recur,” he said when officiating the commissioning ceremony of the 9th Student Civil Defence Corps at Universiti Malaysia Sabah today.
