DR Mahathir Mohamad has issued an open letter calling on Langkawi voters to save the island come the 14th general election.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said this is the chance for residents to choose an MP and assemblymen who will protect and uphold their rights.
“All this while, when there is an election, Langkawi has always been a safe seat for Barisan Nasional and Umno.
“Even though Kedah fell into PAS’ hands in GE12, Langkawi still showed support for BN. But this time around, it is different as BN will be going up against PH.”
Dr Mahathir said the opposition has become a big threat to BN, citing the government’s rejection of PH component Bersatu’s registration bid.
“When I was with Umno, I fought to develop Langkawi, and the island has seen progress and development.
“Many Langkawi folk prospered, and the island is now known throughout the world, attracting many tourists.
“But today, Umno is not the same. Under caretaker prime minister Najib Razak, the country is gone. The people are complaining about the high cost of living, unemployment, and the goods and services tax.
“Can we allow this to continue? Umno and BN have been throwing money and gifts to attract voters. Are we willing to allow this to continue?
“This is the last chance for the people to redeem the country. Give us (PH) a chance. Vote for Juhari Bulat (Air Hangat) and Firdaus Ahmad (Kuah).” – May 2, 2018.
