MALAYSIAN celebrities are telling voters to come out and vote on May 9 in videos with the hashtag #NegaraKru on YouTube.
There are more than 10 of such videos, each about 30 seconds long, with singers, actors, television personalities and more, who come from different states, giving positive testimonies of the country’s progress and telling their fellow Malaysians to vote on May 9.
Singer Siti Sarah Raisuddin, from Perak, said as a mother, she cared about education and jobs for her kids’ future, and that if things were already good now, and the future would be even better.
“Jadi, Sarah ajak kita sama-sama pilih hebatkan negara (So let us together choose to make the country greater),” she said.
Karl Shafek said people in Pahang, particularly Pekan, were never neglected by caretaker prime minister Najib Razak, the Pekan incumbent.
“I choose prosperity,” the television host and actor said.
Hip-hop artiste Ariz Ramli, better known as Caprice, praised beautiful Malaysia and Malaysians, saying nowhere else in the world did the people speak three languages in one sentence.
“Hey macha, mana mau yamcha later?” he said. The sentence which means “hey brother, where are we having tea later?” has words in four languages – Tamil, Malay, Cantonese and English.
Ariz from Kuala Lumpur said he was proud to be Malaysian, and that he chose “Negaraku” (my country) and stability, and urged Malaysians to vote instead of just making noise on social media.
Other celebrities featured are Sarah’s comedian husband Shuib Sepahtu, radio personality Zulin Aziz, singers Sufian Suhaimi and Dayang Nurfaizah, rapper Altimet, actresses Yasmin Hani and Nabila Razali, and film director and television personality Low Ngai Yu. – May 2, 2018.
