DAIM Zainuddin’s decision to stump for Pakatan Harapan will boost the pact’s chances and motivate its machinery on the ground, a party source said today.
The former finance minister wants to campaign in places where Pakatan Harapan (PH) needs a push to cross the finish line.
“Daim got information that some areas still needed that little extra for PH to win.
“That’s why Daim went campaigning in those areas but more needs to be done,” the source told Malaysia Decides.
His campaign swing took him yesterday to Langkawi, Pendang and Jitra in Kedah and on Monday night he was in Port Klang in Selangor.
Yesterday, Daim expressed his support for PH while urging the people to reject the Barisan Nasional (BN) government on May 9.
Bersatu supreme council member A. Kadir Jasin, who moderated several programmes with Daim, said the campaign trip yesterday was positive.
“Daim does not like to campaign at rallies but would rather go and meet small groups of people.
“Daim will be going back to Langkawi again where he has campaigned twice for PH,” said the former New Straits Times Press (NSTP) group editor-in-chief.
Kadir said Daim has always gone on the campaign trail at every election.
“In GE13, Daim campaigned for Umno and BN to win. The difference this time is Daim is campaigning to ensure the victory of PH.”
Daim previously criticised caretaker prime minister Najib Razak’s administration over the financial and economic policies which, he said, did not benefit Malaysians.
On April 21, Daim questioned Putrajaya’s decision to grant a goods and services tax waiver to the RM55 billion East Coast Railways (ECRL) project. – May 2, 2018.
