DR Mahathir Mohamad should not take out his anger at Umno and Barisan Nasional as it was these two entities that helped him stay as prime minister for 22 years, said his former protege Najib Razak.
“You can be angry at me, it is okay. But against Umno and BN? They were the ones who put him on top for 22 years,” Najib, who is BN chairman, told a crowd of about 1,000 at a ceramah in Wangsa Maju last night.
Dr Mahathir has been calling for the removal of the Najib administration over corruption.
Najib said Pakatan Harapan, which Dr Mahathir leads, will not be able to form a stable government as the opposition leaders will not be able to forget what he did in his 22 years in power.
Furthermore, he said, they keep fighting and criticising each other. PH comprises of PKR, DAP, Bersatu and Amanah. The opposition coalition picked Dr Mahathir as its prime minister candidate.
The caretaker prime minister said Dr Mahathir was just a puppet master and would be pushed out if DAP won the most number of seats among the opposition coalition parties.
He then appealed to the crowd to give him and BN another five years “to bring more development to the country”.
The Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight between Tan Yew Kew from PH, Yew Teong Look (BN) and Razali Tumiran (PAS).
The Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat was won by PKR’s Dr Tan Kee Kwong in the 2013 general election. He defeated Mohd Shafei Abdullah (BN) by 5,511 votes, in a straight fight which saw a voter turnout of 57,771 (86%). – May 2, 2018.
