DAIM Zainuddin is “looking for justice” in a nation where things have become critical, the former finance minister told voters today as he explained why he was campaigning for Pakatan Harapan.
He supported Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who he said was also looking for justice.
Daim told his audience that Dr Mahathir, who was 93 years’ old, did not need the hassle of running the country again, but wanted to right the country’s wrongs.
“So I ask all of you here to give him one last chance for the people. Surely people are not going to reject him, as he is sacrificing for the country.
“Surely all of you can sacrifice for him as well,” he said at the two ceramah he spoke at Pendang and Jitra in Kedah today.
The last-minute appearance saw a small turnout, but the audience was very responsive to various points that Daim made.
Daim pointed out the economic achievements under Dr Mahathir’s rule, contrasting them with the rising costs of living under caretaker prime minister Najib Razak.
“GST is actually (short for) ‘government sudah tipu’ (government has cheated).
“(Former deputy finance minister) Ahmad Maslan used to say that the prices of goods would fall once GST was implemented. Did it fall?
“What has fallen is the price of rubber, the people’s income,” he said to cheers. – May 1, 2018.
