THE 14th general election campaign for the Batang Lupar parliamentary seat has been marred by the spread of fake news by a PAS candidate, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Rohani Abdul Karim claimed.
Bernama reported Rohani, who is also the incumbent for the seat, as saying the PAS candidate had claimed Rohani and the BN machinery had organised a dangdut concert yesterday on the night of Nisfu Syaaban.
“We (Batang Lupar BN machinery) held a ‘doa selamat’ in conjunction with Nisfu Syaaban and not a dangdut concert as claimed by the PAS candidate.
“He made the allegation in a Facebook post, saying that a dangdut concert was organised by BN last night in total disregard of Nisfu Syaaban. That’s a lie,” Rohani said during a meeting with the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) youth wing at Kampung Hulu Maludam in Betong today.
However, Rohani said a search for the post later found that it had been deleted.
Rohani is contesting Batang Lupar against Narudin Mentali of Pakatan Harapan and Wan Abdillah Wan Ahmad of PAS.
She urged the youth wings of PBB and BN to curb the spread of fake news by lodging reports to the authorities and actively using social media to counter the allegations. – May 1, 2018.
