BARISAN Nasional (BN) chairman Najib Razak today sought the help Bandar Tun Razak’s voters to return the constituency named after his father to the ruling coalition.
Najib said it is only apt for BN to regain control of the parliamentary seat which they had lost to opposition in the last two election.
He said he was aggrieved that Bandar Tun Razak was not BN’s but there were signs showing that it would return to BN.
“I’m the son of Tun Razak, please help me, please help Tun Razak’s family. Bandar Tun Razak, we want it back,” Najib told a huge crowd of BN supporters and members in Cheras this evening.
He added that BN had been working hard for the last five years to regain the trust of the people there.
Even the candidate to contest for Bandar Tun Razak was chosen carefully.
“That was why we picked Adnan Abu Seman. He is a local boy. He has good academic background and is a lawyer by profession,” he said.
The 42-year-old Bandar Tun Razak Umno Youth chief will be contesting against Pakatan Harapan candidate Kamaruddin Jaafar from PKR, who left the Tumpat parliamentary seat in Kelantan to contest in an urban seat, and PAS candidate Dr Rosni Adam, a local and Bandar Tun Razak PAS Muslimat Council chief.
Adnan almost lost his chance to contest when he forgot to bring his appointment letter to file in his nomination papers on Saturday.
The Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat was held by BN until the 2008 general election, when former Selangor Menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, then with PKR, wrested the seat.
According to Bernama, the constituency has 83,650 voters, 61.96% of whom are Malays, followed by Chinese (29.19%), Indians (8.18%) and others (0.67%). – May 1, 2018.
