FED up with the services of their councillors, Kota Damansara residents told candidates contesting in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat that they want local council elections brought back.
This is because they felt that the councillors who were appointed by the Selangor government were not serving them and they could do nothing if they failed to perform.
Friends of Kota Damansara (FOKD) chairman Jeffrey Phang said the councillors were not addressing issues raised by residents.
“There was one councillor who had refused to work with the poor and was not contactable.
“Those who are representing the people should not ignore their grouses,” he said after the session at the KD Hall in Kota Damansara.
MyPJ community group member Kavin Thayalan said local council elections would ensure councillors were accountable for their actions.
“If they don’t perform we can vote them out. At least they will be on their toes,” he said.
The Sungai Buloh seat, formerly known as Subang, will see a four-cornered fight between A. Prakash Rao from BN, R. Sivarasa (PKR), Nuridah Mohd Salleh (PAS) and Zainurizzaman Moharam (PSM).
Subang incumbent Sivarasa defeated Prakash Rao by 26,719 votes in the 2013 general election.
Sivarasa said after the 2013 election the Selangor government had proposed to have local elections but it was rejected by the court.
Meanwhile, Prakash said studies need to be carried out before any election is to take place. – May 1, 2018.
