Malacca governor Khalil backs Liow in Bentong

The Malaysian Insight

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, who won his Bentong seat by a handful of votes in GE13, brought in the big guns to support his campaign yesterday.

Malacca Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob, who is also a former Pahang menteri besar, turned up at Liow’s event to tell those present that the caretaker transport minister is “very capable”, The Star reports.

“I am here to say hello and to give him my blessing,” Khalil was quoted as saying.

Liow is defending the seat which he has held since 1999. He had a close shave in the 2013 elections, defeating environmentalist Wong Tack of DAP by just 379 votes.

Liow said the party was united despite seven of its members opting to contest in GE14 as independents. They were among 12 party members sacked on Saturday after nominations were filed.

“MCA has more than one million members. There are bound to be members who have lost their way and we need to take action.

“But overall, the party is more united than before.” – May 1, 2018.
