THE Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) today said it has no jurisdiction over the construction of a toll plaza in Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands.

In a statement, LLM said the project does not fall under its purview because it is not on a federal road.

“The road in question is a private road and it has nothing to do with the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway,” LLM said.

LLM was responding to widely shared photos showing the toll station being built.

On October 22, the highway authority denied approving the construction at the only access point to Genting Highlands.

LLM chairman Jalaluddin Alias said there had been no application for the development of the station.

He said the developer might have assumed that there was no need to apply for permission because the land was privately owned.

Reports of the toll plaza first appeared on October 19, following which a spokesman for Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd, which manages the roads in the area, said the company would manage the toll operations.

Last week, the Bentong Municipal Council said it had issued a stop work order to the toll plaza developer because the project did not have the approval of the authorities. – October 28, 2023.
