BN Shah Alam candidate Azhari Shaari’s exploits may have caught up with him.

He was among a group of 12 who were fined RM1,000 in 2009 for participation in an illegal rally in front of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building, where the head of a cow was stamped on to protest the building of a Hindu temple.

A picture of him at the protest has gone viral, enraging Hindus and causing them to think twice about voting for someone intolerant.

The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion.

Attempts to get Azhari or Umno Selangor have been unsuccessful.

Shah Alam incumbent Khalid Samad said he did not want to be drawn into the fray, but urged Azahari to come clean on the matter.

“It is very unfortunate if the BN candidate is like that. But if it is true, then the lesson here is, your past will catch up with you,” said Khalid.

Some 13% of the 107,316 voters in the constituency are Indian.

It could not be established if Azhari had also stamped on the cow’s head but he was with the group calling for a Hindu temple to be moved fromm Seksyen 19 to Seksyen 23 in Shah Alam.

Two more men at the rally were charged with sedition and fined RM3,000, and one of the two was also ordered to serve one week in jail.

In addition to Azhari, the others who were fined were Ahmad Mahayuddin Abdul Manaf, 36; Ibrahim Sabri, 43; Eyzva Ezhar Ramly, 31; Mohd Azmir Mohd Zain, 35; Ahmad Suhairy Zakaria, 30; Mohd Hilmi Ni, 40; Jainuddin@Zainuddin Md Yusuff, 67; Mohd Jurit Ramli, 39; Mohamad Nordin Zakaria, 46; Jamil Mohamad Isa, 40; and Rahimuddin Md Harun, 39.

Eyzva Ezhar Ramly was charged under the Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948 for “inciting racial animosity by carrying a cow head” along with the other accused, Mohd Azmir Mohd Zain. – April 30, 2018.
