THE widow of PAS’ late spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat will not back her eldest son, who is Pakatan Harapan’s candidate in the Chempaka state seat in Kelantan.
Nik Mohamad Omar Nik Abdul Aziz lost the support of his mother, Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak, after defying her wishes by going against PAS, said his brother Nik Mohamad Abduh.
Nik Abduh, a PAS supreme council member, said his mother was deeply hurt by Nik Omar’s decision to run with Amanah for PH in the seat that was held by his father while he was alive. Nik Aziz, who was Kelantan menteri besar, died in 2015.
Nik Abduh, who is standing in the Bachok parliamentary seat, said Tuan Sabariah had initially planned to campaign for him there but changed her mind after Nik Omar’s surprise decision.
“My mother has decided to campaign with the PAS women’s campaign machinery in Chempaka,” Nik Abduh said in a Facebook post.
Nik Omar shocked PAS members and supporters on nomination day on Saturday by filing his candidacy under PH, suffering verbal abuse after over his move.
Amanah is a splinter party of PAS that formed following a bitter internal feud, and those who left the Islamist party to join the former have been branded as traitors.
Nik Abduh also apologised to the PAS machinery nationwide for his brother’s actions and criticised Nik Omar for disregarding their mother’s wishes.
“Who are we without mothers? Just wasted semen tossed aside,” he wrote.
Nik Omar will face Ahmad Fathan Mahmood from PAS dan Barisan Nasional’s Mohamad Fareez Noor Amran in Chempaka. – April 30, 2018.
