PENANG Barisan Nasional chairman Teng Chang Yeow said he is unafraid to stand up to caretaker prime minister Najib Razak, which he doubted the Pakatan Harapan election candidates dared to do with the caretaker chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
At a press conference at state Gerakan headquarters today, Teng called Zairil Khir Johari, who is PH’s Tanjung Bungah candidate, Lim’s “blue-eyed boy”.
Teng, who is heading a BN charge to increase its representation in the PH-controlled state, is running against Zairil for the Tanjung Bungah seat.
“Zairil is the blue-eyed boy of the (caretaker) chief minister (Lim Guan Eng). Will he dare to air the views of the people?” said Teng.
“He has responded by asking me if I dare stand up to (caretaker prime minister and BN chairman) Najib. I am not Najib’s blue-eyed boy, and if the issue is in the interest of the people, I will raise it with him openly or internally.
Teng’s attacks follow a forum yesterday where Miami Green Resort Condo residents in Batu Ferringhi raised objections to a high-density condo project on a hill slope behind their homes. The The rsidents flayed Zairil for trying to defend the state government and its policies.
The Penang Gerakan chief claimed the BN coalition had always practised an open policy with its member parties when it came to issues concerning the people.
“BN has never penalised any of its representatives for raising issues because we represent the people when we highlight problems,” said Teng. – April 30, 2018.
