LOK koho punoh. This is PAS’ latest slogan in its bid to recapture Terengganu from Barisan Nasional and sums up how the ruling coalition has allegedly misspent public funds on failed mega-projects.
In the Terengganu dialect, lok koho punoh means that things will only worsen if the status quo remains.
According to Terengganu PAS lawmaker Hishammuddin Abdul Karim, if voters leave Terengganu in BN’s hands, the state will be worse off.
The phrase, emblazoned on the T-shirts of PAS supporters, is a retort to Terengganu BN’s slogan “Terengganu molek doh”.
It means that things in the state are already good and hence, there is no need to change the government.
PAS’ slogan is supposed to refocus voters’ attention on the mega-projects that have been spectacular failures, said Hishammuddin.
In a recent ceramah in Tepuh, Hishammuddin zeroed in the RM160 million Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin stadium whose roof collapsed in 2009.
After the roof was fixed, the football field was flooded after a deluge.
“In total, the state government had to spend more than RM360 million to build and repair that stadium. Its original price was about RM160 million,” said Hishammuddin, who is fighting to retain the Tepuh state seat.
Other waste of funds, he said, included the Islamic civilisation park and knowledge park.
“The Tasik Kenyir free trade zone is another problem and its completion has been delayed at least seven times. I have repeatedly asked for the feasibility study of this project to see whether it is viable.”
The latest scandal he said was the amphibious bus project, which has disappeared since caretaker menteri besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman took it out for a test drive.
The bus failed its maiden run when it stalled and broke down in the middle of Sungai Terengganu. – April 30, 2018.
