SABAH Progressive Party (SAPP) president Yong Teck Lee is banking on the failures of opposition elected representatives to win the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat.
He said most residents have complained about the ineffectiveness of state PKR chief Christina Liew and Kota Kinabalu incumbent Jimmy Wong of DAP.
“They complain that their elected representatives are never around to hear their concerns,” said Yong after a walkabout at the Sunday Gaya Street Fair this morning.
SAPP is one of the four parties in state coalition United Sabah Alliance.
“A trader complained to me about the traffic congestion in the state capital. The road network needs an overhaul.”
He said Wong’s ineffectiveness as MP is the reason the state DAP replaced him with an “outsider” – state DAP secretary and Sri Tanjong incumbent Chan Foong Hin, who is from Tawau.
Wong, a former Sri Tanjong rep himself, had been moved to Kota Kinabalu because he was said to be “useless” in Sri Tanjong.
Yong said the common perception is that opposition reps are like “frogs”, citing Luyang incumbent Hiew King Cheu, who “jumped” from DAP to MCA, Likas incumbent Junz Wong (DAP to Parti Warisan Sabah) and Dr Edwin Bosi (DAP to Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri).
There are 56,220 voters in Kota Kinabalu, which will see a three-cornered fight between Yong, Dr Joseph Lee Han Kyun (Parti Bersatu Sabah) and Chan Foong Hin (DAP). – April 29, 2018.
