Ku Nan chides PKR for blaming EC over disqualifications

The Malaysian Insight

IT is wrong for PKR to blame the Election Commission as the disqualification of several of the party’s 14th general election candidates is due to their own mistakes.

Bernama reported that Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the opposition’s allegations that the EC has an agenda and had changed the rules for nomination are baseless.

“Just adhere to the EC regulations. I believe the EC follows the law. If you have your own party problems, settle them,” he said after officiating at the groundbreaking for a multi-storey car park at the Phase 5 and 6 Apartment Quarters in Precinct 9, Putrajaya, today.

Among the PKR candidates disqualified on nomination day yesterday was Tian Chua. The Batu incumbent has been barred from defending the seat over a RM2,000 fine imposed on him.

The EC also rejected the nominations of Dr Mohd Hafidz Rizal (Kuala Balah state seat) after he was declared a bankrupt, and Dr S. Streram (Rantau) for failing to file his nomination in time.

The delay was because Dr Streram did not have a candidate’s pass, and was not allowed to enter the nomination centre.

Tengku Adnan added that the opposition is trying to find reasons to declare Umno an illegal party, and therefore, cannot contest in GE14, following the move by 16 Umno members to file for a judicial review for the party to be dissolved.

“But, they forget that in Umno’s constitution, there is a clause stating that any member who takes Umno to court will be automatically expelled.” – April 29, 2018.
