Bersatu members contesting as independents will be sacked

BERSATU president Muhyiddin Yassin said members contesting as independents in the 14th general election will be sacked from the party.

Bernama reported him as saying the matter is made clear in the party’s constitution, which states that members running as candidates without the party’s permission will get the boot.

“This is something that cannot be allowed to happen, because they have betrayed the party’s struggle and breached discipline,” he said after a ceramah in Bakri last night.

“More so, they have done something that creates problems for other (Pakatan Harapan) component parties.”

He was asked about Hang Tuan Jaya Bersatu vice-chief Associate Professor Dr Kamarolzaman Mohd Jidi’s decision to contest as an independent in the Ayer Molek state seat.

Kamarolzaman said he made the decision after feeling disappointed that he was not picked to be a Bersatu candidate in GE14, despite promises made by the party leadership.

PH fielded a PKR candidate in the seat, located in the Hang Tuan Jaya parliamentary constituency.

Kamarolzaman filed his nomination at the Malacca International Trade Centre yesterday, and was announced by the returning officer as one of the contenders in Ayer Molek.

He will battle it out with Rahmad Mariman (Barisan Nasional), Jantan Abdullah (PAS) and Farhan Ibrahim @ Alias (PKR). – April 29, 2018.
