If BN wins, Najib will sell Langkawi to pay debts, says Dr Mahathir

CARETAKER Prime Minister Najib Razak will sell land on Langkawi island to repay the government’s burgeoning debts if Barisan Nasional wins the 14th general election, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said apart from raising taxes, Najib will be forced to sell off the country as his administration has accumulated too much debt.

“That is why in the future, Najib’s government will impose more taxes because of the need to pay a lot of debt that is taken on by Najib,” Dr Mahathir said in his first ceramah after being confirmed as a candidate for the Langkawi parliamentary seat.

“If he does not impose more taxes, Najib may sell land. He has sold much land in Malaysia. Just to find money, to pay debts. Maybe these Langkawi islands, they will be sold,” said the former prime minister.

Dr Mahathir will face a three-cornered fight against BN’s Nawawi Ahmad and Zubir Ahmad (PAS).

In the 13th general election, Nawawi defeated PKR’s Ahmad Abdullah by 11,861 votes.

Dr Mahathir claimed that Najib’s debts were “far greater” than what had been revealed by the government so far.

“Najib has accumulated debts of more than RM1 trillion. The figures (he mentioned) are RM600 billion.

“But actually, Najib’s debts are far greater and we must pay this debt.” – April 29, 2018.
