THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has raided two rice mills in Kedah for covertly stockpiling local white rice.
MACC chief Azam Baki said the first raid was conducted yesterday while the other was done today.
Azam said the commission was looking at possible misappropriation of subsidies and other parties acting with the mills to commit these offences.
“When it comes to the subsidies, it is suspected the production (and distribution of rice) was not commensurate with subsidies given by the government.
“I do not deny more premises may be inspected by MACC,” he told reporters after officiating an event today.
On Monday, MACC uncovered fraudulent activities carried out by a rice supplier in Kedah.
A source said the company secured a contract valued at over RM100 million per year from a state-owned agricultural company to supply rice in Peninsular Malaysia. – October 12, 2023.
