THERE was malicious intent in the way Tian Chua was disqualified from contesting the Batu parliamentary seat, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.
She said PKR would speak with its lawyers about the disqualification tomorrow.
“They (Election Commission) said we can petition (on the disqualification), but they have already taken our rights away.
“The record shows it is difficult for petitions to get a positive result,” she said after attending a talk with the people of Pandan at the MPAJ field.
Returning officer Anwar Mohd Zain disqualified the nomination of the two-term MP because the candidate had been fined RM2,000 by the Shah Alam High Court.
Tian Chua has since filed a police report against Anwar.
Election Commission chief Mohd Hashim Abdullah said that those unhappy with the returning officer’s decision could take the matter to court.
“Let the matter be brought to court and let (the court ) decide. We will abide by the court’s ruling.”
He said it is wrong to assume that Tian Chua has been “completely disqualified” from contesting in the 14 general election.
Wan Azizah called upon Pandan residents to reject Barisan Nasional.
“They should fight properly and not cheat. This is a democratic country and we have our rights.
“We want not only a Malay tsunami but an Indian, Chinese, Kadazan and Iban tsunami.
“Vote against this government that cheats the people,” she said to about 200 residents.
Despite being disqualified, Tian Chua continues to campaign for Pakatan Harapan. – April 28, 2018.
