THE police have denied restricting GE14 candidates from speaking or making speeches outside the constituencies they are contesting in.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Section 24B (3) of the Election Offences Act stated that anyone could campaign in an electoral district provided their names were listed in the approved permit.
“Allegations about a new law which alleged restricts any candidate from speaking in constituencies other than where they are contesting is false, and there is no time limit set for the application.
“In addition, candidates or agents may invite any individual to campaign, provided the nominee has been listed in the approved permit, according to the date, time and place specified in the permit,” he said in a statement today.
Fuzi also said any party wishing to hold a gathering must give prior notice at least 10 days in advance in accordance to the Peaceful Assembly Act.
Meanwhile, he said the police would be investigating claims that Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s flight had been sabotaged, as directed by caretaker deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. – April 28, 2018.
