Punish BN for its dirty tactics, Rafizi urges Indians

RAFIZI Ramli today called on Indians to punish Barisan Nasional for its dirty tactics in the 14th general election.

The PKR vice-president said the decision by the Rantau state seat returning officer to disallow Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr Streram Sinnasamy’s nomination on the grounds that he did not have an entry pass to the nomination centre is an example of BN’s dirty tricks.

Rafizi said this allowed the BN candidate, Negri Sembilan caretaker menteri besar Mohamad Hasan, to win the seat uncontested.

“I believe that voters, especially Indian voters in Negri Sembilan… can see how BN’s top leaders, such as Mohamad and Rembau incumbent Khairy Jamaluddin, are very scared of the unity of the people, who are demanding a change in Putrajaya.

“I will go to Rembau on Monday to ensure that the voters there punish Khairy and Mohamad, who won (uncontested) because they fear a fair fight,” he said in a statement.

Rafizi said the reason given by returning officer Amino Agos Suyub in declaring Mohamad as the winner is because Dr Streram did not file his nomination in time.

“Dr Streram was in the hall since 8am. He was not allowed to enter by the Election Commission officials on duty, on the grounds that he did not have an entry pass.

“At 10.03am, the returning officer allowed Dr Streram’s nomination papers to be brought in, but later, announced that the nomination is invalid as it was past the 10am deadline.”

Mohamad retained the seat in the 2013 general election with a 4,613-vote majority, in a straight fight with PKR’s Aisah Lamsah. – April 28, 2018.
