THE Pakatan Harapan candidate for Segambut, Hannah Yeoh, questioned her BN opponent’s senator status today as this can result in disqualification.

BN’s candidate for Segambut, MyPPP vice-president Loga Bala Mohan, was re-appointed as a member of the Dewan Negara for three years and his term will end on May 15, 2019.

Yeoh, who is incumbent assemblyman for the Subang Jaya state seat in Selangor, said Article 49 of the federal constitution prohibits double membership in the upper and lower houses of Parliament.

“We wanted to know if he had resigned from his position as a senator but because there is no objection period now, the Election Commision people said they would check and will announce.

“It is important for them to verify and confirm that he has truly resigned and has been released as a senator,” Yeoh said after filing her nomination at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Damansara.

When contacted, Loga Bala said he had resigned from his position as a senator on April 27 to be eligible to contest in GE14. – April 28, 2018.
