DEPUTY Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the nomination process for the 14th general election today was the “most orderly” of all general elections, reported Bernama.
“The supporters of parties contesting in the elections were well-behaved, enthusiastic and in high spirits.
“This shows that the people are able to accept differences in opinion in the democratic system without getting overly emotional,” he told reporters after filing his nomination to defend the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat.
The Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, who has held the seat for six terms since 1995, will go up against PKR’s Pakhrurrazi Arshad and PAS’ Ata Abdul Muneim Hasan Adli.
Zahid, who is also home minister, said 75,000 police officers were deployed nationwide to ensure a peaceful nomination process.
“We will increase the number of policemen on duty during the 11 days of campaigning, up to polling day on May 9.”
He said People’s Volunteer Corps personnel will help police control traffic near polling centres.
“I hope there will be no untoward incidents during the campaign period.” – April 28, 2018.
