PAKATAN Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad today questioned the decision by the Election Commission to disqualify PKR vice-president Tian Chua from standing in the Batu parliamentary seat.
“Everything is okay, except that I heard that Tian Chua was disqualified although there was no reason for the disqualification,” Dr Mahathir told reporters in Langkawi.
Dr Mahathir also expressed dismay over the mistake by PKR candidate Dr Streram Sinnasamy, who failed to turn up with his Election Commission pass, leading to his disqualification from contesting the Rantau state seat in Negri Sembilan.
“I regret Mat Hassan won uncontested because of the mistake by our candidate. Other than that, everything is all right.”
Asked to comment on the elections, the former prime minister said: “We don’t know… with Datuk Seri Najib (Razak), we never know.
“I feel the support is good,” he said.
Dr Mahathir also commented on his plane troubles yesterday, when a privately chartered aircraft had issues with a landing gear. Dr Mahathir said earlier that he believed it was sabotage.
“We don’t know what tricks he (Najib) may have in his mind, but he’s like that.
“Trying to stop me from coming here. And in that process, I may get involve in a serious accident.”
Dr Mahathir said he will still campaign nationwide, even if the EC bars candidates from campaigning in other seats.
“I don’t know if that directive is legal or not. As I am a party leader, I can go anywhere the party contests.” – April 28, 2018.
