Nurul Izzah in 3-way fight in Permatang Pauh

THE Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight between PKR, Barisan Nasional and PAS in the 14th general election.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, 38, will battle it out with Permatang Pauh Umno division chief Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said, 49, and Penang PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, 37, as she seeks to retain the seat under the party’s control.

The seat was last won by Nurul Izzah’s mother and party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Bernama reported that the candidates submitted their nominations at the National Youth Skills Institute this morning.

Returning officer Mohd Ali Sebran announced the names of the candidates for Permatang Pauh, as well as the Seberang Jaya, Permatang Pasir and Penanti state seats, at 11.45am.

PKR’s Dr Afif Bahardin, 32, will defend the Seberang Jaya seat against Permatang Pauh Umno Youth chief Abu Bakar Sidekh Zainul Abidin, 42, and state PAS Youth vice-chief Ahmad Rafaei Rashid, 40.

Permatang Pasir will see a fight between BN’s Annuar Faisal Yahaya, 40, PAS’ Mohammad Fauzi Yusoff, 47, and Amanah’s Muhammad Faiz Fadzil, 41.

Penanti will see PKR’s Dr Norlela Ariffin, 55, defending the seat against Umno’s Suhaimi Sabudin, 47, and PAS’ Fawwaz Mohamad Jan, 35.

Meanwhile, in the Kedah parliamentary seat of Pokok Sena, incumbent Mahfuz Omar, who is also Amanah vice-president, will fight to retain the seat he won in the 2013 general election for PAS.

He will go up against Pokok Sena Umno division chief Said Ali Syed Rastan and former national footballer Radhi Mat Din, who is contesting for PAS. – April 28, 2018.
