Three-cornered fight in Lembah Pantai

PKR’s Fahmi Fadzil will be battling against BN’s Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin and PAS’ Fauzi Abu Bakar to win the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat.

The Election Commission’s returning officer, Ab Salim Mansor, confirmed the names of all three candidates this morning.

Raja Nong Chik, who was defeated by PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar in the 2013 general election, said he had never given up since the last polls.

He attacked Nurul, who had decided not to defend her seat and is contesting the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat this time, saying that her move could have partly been due to a rejection by Lembah Pantai’s voters.

“Maybe voters realised what she had done was not effective. That could be one of the reasons why she chose to contest a safe seat,” he said.

Fahmi, who is running as a candidate for the first time, said his strategy for the upcoming elections was to tell the truth.

“What has Umno-BN done in Lembah Pantai? Nothing. They come once every five years to hand out goodies.

“My strategy is to tell the truth about the problems we are facing, and the failure of the Umno-BN’s government,” he said.

As for Fauzi, he said that PAS, despite it being his first time contesting in Lembah Pantai, as well as the party’s first in two decades, had its own strategy to get voters’ support.

“There are issues that we will tackle in terms of housing, job opportunities for the younger generation, as well as social problems in the community,” he said. – April 28, 2018.
